This place was Gabbar Singh's Den in Sholay |
While witnessing the build-up of re-release of iconic Bollywood movie Sholay myself and Vikram( a hardcore movie buff and photography enthusiast) came up with an idea to visit the shooting locations of the movie in Ramnagaram near Bangalore.
After numerous discussions the plan was finally executed on last Saturday (28th Dec 2013) with Jatin, Nagesh and Rohit on-board. We took 7:00 am Tuticorn express from Bangalore City station to Ramnagaram station. Before going to the Ramdevarabetta we had breakfast at the famous Janardhana Hotel in Ramanagara town. From there we took an auto to the base of the Sholay Hills. The hiking trail was first on asphalted roads, then on steps to Rama temple followed by natural path and ending with 70% ascent to the summit.
After descending we had a plan of spotting from vultures in the newly created sanctuary. But it was disappointing to see a fenced place with a big board private property in the place which was supposed to be sanctuary ! We wound-up our exploration and came back to Janardhana Hotel for lunch and later took 3.45 pm Basava Express for getting back to Bangalore. Overall a memorable trip but not productive w.r.t. photography :)

Note:
- Train is pretty decent mode of commute from Bangalore. It's highly economical too !
- Sholay Hills pretty close to Ramanagara railway station and accessible by autorickshaw.
- Don't miss mysore pak and curd rice at Janardhana hotel
